Alex Carlile

Alex Carlile, or Baron Carlile of Berriew, is a leading barrister who recent work has included clarifying anti-terrorism legislation as the government’s independent reviewer from 2005 to 2011. Known for his support for control orders, he has also been influential in getting the police to limit its use of stop and search and became president of the Howard League for Penal Reform after leading an inquiry into the use of physical restraint against children in prisons.

Alex is keen to see more of the contemporary housing designs found in northern Europe built in the UK.
